Turquoise is a kind of gemstone. It is green in color. It is, as if, an idol of beauty. It is bright, sky blue. There stretches a kind of web of fine black lines on a blue background in a kind of turquoise known as Persian Spider Net. Bright sky blue turquoise has a very high demand in the market. However, green turquoise had much demand in the past. This gemstone is tasteless, cold, placid and dry. The back side of this gemstone is rough and sometimes it is a little bit fragile. This gemstone is called Paiboj in Sanskrit, Firoza in French and Turquoise in English. This is national gemstone of Persia. Muslims like this gemstone most and adorn their necks with it.
The Christians consider this Gemstone good result-producing. Therefore, pure turquoise is sold at a very high price as it is considered a precious metal. ThisGemstone can not endure heat. Even by the scorching heat of the sun turquoise’s green color may fade away. Iranian turquoise is of excellent quality. Even four thousand years before Christian era started, the Egyptians had used this gemstone. Turquoise studded in chest’s locket of neck chain looks more beautiful than any other gemstone studded in that. From the ancient writers’ writings, it is learnt that turquoise gemstone are probably found for the first time in Turkistan. Perhaps because of this ‘Turkistan’ this gemstone was named Turquoise or Turkish gemstone. It is also learnt that Persian Shah (Pahlabi Reza Shah) had a collection of a very high quality turquoises
It is because the most precious turquoises are found in the region named Nishapur of Khorashan. The region was under his rule. It is learnt that he used to collect and preserve the high quality turquoises and allow lower quality turquoises to be sold in the market.
Nowadays, by colouring the rough glass or porcelain or plaster of Paris, duplicate turquoises are made. These duplicate turquoises weigh heavily and their specific gravity is stronger. If these are heated they spread obnoxious smell. Besides, duplicate turquoises’ colour fades away easily and these lose their glaze and glitter as hair loses.

According to Sheikh Ibrahim, the person who wears this gemstone is not attacked and bitten by ferocious beasts and animals. It is learnt that wherever Hazrat Ali(R) and Hazrat Omar(R) started for joining a religious battle, they used to wear turquoise -studded rings in their fingers only to protect themselves from various dangers in the battlefield. No doubt, turquoise gemstones are very much resultant in the case of protection from dangers.
