After collecting sample of earth from the center place (Brahmasthan) and four corners this test will have to be done. The land which contains five elements (Panchbhoutik) is as follows:

There are five qualities of the earth of the land. These are: While touch (sky) equality (air) of cols and heat, its blackish grey color (fire), its taste (water) and Odour. The land which contains the above five elements is the ideal place to construct house.

The descriptions about land and quality of it which are given above are absolutely outward, i.e. testing and examining surface of the land. Now internal qualities and characteristics are being described for information.
 
A hole of 18 inch measuring 18 X 18 inch area will have to be done after determining center place of the land. Then this hole will have to be filled in with water. Then after walking from the hole with water at a distance of 100 feet and to return or wait for five minutes the amount of water will have to be measured. If it is seen that the quantity of water is same then the land is the best and if the water is a little less then the land is medium and if the water in the hole is much less then the land is unfit for residential purpose.
 
If it is found through above test that water level is less than one-fourth, then the land is good, if less than 50% then the land quality is middle and if the less becomes more than 25% then the land is unusable for the purpose. Through this test water absorbing power of the land, ground water level can be assumed. If the land has the most less absorbing power then the land is the best. While construction of house on this land normal foundation is sufficient. If half of the water is absorbed then foundation will have to make deep and if the water level goes to 25% or less then foundation will have to make much deep, but this is very much expensive at present. Besides, one more test may be done easily. This is: making a hole in any place of the land the earth will have to be collected and after that with smooth hand the said earth will have to throw to the said hole. If it is observed that the remaining land in hand is much then the land is good, if the land is up to level of the hole then the land is middle and if the hole is not filled in with the earth made out of the hole then the land unusable for the purpose.
 
A concept we can achieve on density of the land and its power of withstanding weight as a result of previously mentioned test to the modern scientific stand point of view. If the earth collected from the hole remains in hand a little after filling the hole then the same is indicative to high quality of density of the land and power of bearing weight, if it is as per then quality of density of the land and power of bearing weight is middle standard and if the hole is not filled in with the earth then quality of density of the land and power of bearing weight is low standard. This is proved as a modern soil mechanics theory. But this method of concept has begun from the primitive age and as a result we can keep confidence on the old scripture.
 
Testing end the surgical fault of the land can be known. If bones of human being, animals, reptiles are found while digging the land then it is indicative that the land contains surgical fault. Besides, if part of tree, part of burnt tree, coal, brick, and iron parts brass bones of birds are found then it is indicative that the land contains surgical fault. After removing surgical fault house should be constructed on this type of land.
 
There are three more methods to know whether the land contains surgery fault or not. These are formula, question and foot shade. First the land will have to be purchased to construct house. Before purchase of land its selection will have to be done properly.
 
Live land will have to be selected for homestead or for construction of building for other purposes. The land in which there are trees and the land, which gives a lot of crops that, is called live land. Other land is dead. The barren land or the land which has been left behind since long should not be selected for construction of houses. Land with crack, bones etc, bush of white ants is never good for construction of houses. If such land is purchased then it will be the cause of loss of money. Land with crack becomes cause of death, barren land losses the wealth and the land with bones is always creating sorrows and the land with high and low places creates more enemy. Old scriptures have detailed all these things.
 
CLASSIFICATION OF LANDS »
 
Land has been divided in to four classes. These are: GAJAPRISHTHA, KUMOPRISTHA, DAYITTAPRISTHA and NAGPRISHTHA (Reference: Jyotish Nibandha).
 
 GAJAPRISHTHA: Land high at the south, west, south-east and south-east corner land is Ggajaprishtha land. If house is constructed on such land and started living there then the man will be wealthy and gets long life.
 
KUMOPRISTHA: The land high in the middle and low in four sides is called Kumopristha land. If house is constructed on such land then the resident become encouraging, earns wealth and becomes established and reputed.
 
DAYITTAPRISTHA: The land high at the east, north-west and north east is called Dayittapristha land. If house is constructed on such land then never the house becomes full of crops. If lives in house on such land then loss of wealth, children and livestock happened.
 
NAGPRISHTHA: The land long from east to west and high at the north and south and at the middle a little low is called Nagprishtha land. Persons living in the houses constructed on such lands remain at the fear of death, happen loss of lives of son and wife and enemy increases at every step.
